Our R&D — Research and Development at AgriFAAS Connect

At AgriFAAS Connect, Research and Development (R&D) is the cornerstone of our mission to revolutionize agriculture in Sub-Saharan Africa. Through continuous innovation and technological advancement, we develop solutions that address the region's most pressing challenges — food insecurity, climate change, and unemployment — while promoting inclusive economic growth. And we do not do it alone: our platform and our farm hub are open infrastructure for research institutions, universities, development organisations and innovators who want to study, test and scale agricultural technology in real field conditions.

Our R&D initiatives focus on

Technology Integration

We develop and deploy cutting-edge tools such as offline-first farm management software, IoT-enabled farm monitoring, AI-driven insights, and digital platforms that connect farmers to markets. These innovations empower smallholder farmers to maximise productivity and profitability.

Climate-Resilient Practices

Our R&D emphasises sustainable farming techniques, renewable energy solutions, and water-efficient solar irrigation systems to mitigate the impacts of climate change and ensure long-term environmental sustainability. Our Tsiame solar-irrigated farm hub in Ghana's Volta Region — 20 acres under construction as the first instalment of a 100-acre replication template — doubles as a living laboratory for climate-smart agriculture.

Data-Driven Insights

Leveraging verified farm data, satellite weather feeds and predictive analytics, we provide actionable insights into weather patterns, soil health, and crop performance. This enables informed decision-making for farmers, agribusinesses, lenders and researchers — and it is why we describe AgriFAAS as the measurement layer: if you can measure it, you can insure it, lend to it, and pay for it.

Inclusive Development Models

We design scalable frameworks for empowering young women, men, and marginalised groups, fostering equitable access to resources, training, and leadership opportunities. Thirty-eight agribusinesses (89 users) run on the platform today, and 111 agricultural extension officers have been trained through our internal pilot and webinar series.

Through strategic R&D, AgriFAAS Connect and Cure Technologies are driving impactful, sustainable progress for communities and ecosystems across Africa.

Alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

Our R&D directly supports several SDGs.

SDG 2

Zero Hunger

Enhancing food security through increased agricultural productivity.

SDG 8

Decent Work & Economic Growth

Creating jobs and promoting entrepreneurship, especially among youth and women.

SDG 12

Responsible Consumption & Production

Promoting sustainable agricultural practices.

SDG 13

Climate Action

Advancing climate-resilient farming solutions.

Research partnerships — work with us

We actively welcome R&D collaboration with universities, research institutes, NGOs, funders and innovation programs. Concretely, partners can:

1

Use AgriFAAS as a field data infrastructure — GPS-mapped plots, input and irrigation logs, financials, harvest and sales records — for studies on smallholder productivity, climate adaptation, finance and extension.

2

Run trials at the Tsiame hub, from soil health and closed-loop nutrient recycling to protected horticulture and solar irrigation performance.

3

Co-design parametric weather-risk research: our verified ground truth supports trigger calibration and claims verification for climate-risk products for food-crop farmers.

4

Access de-identified, aggregated farm data under agreed research protocols and NDAs.

Research enquiries: tell us your research question and we will explore how our platform, data and hub can support it.

Our Unique Idea for Social Change

We envision a world where technology drives inclusive growth, sustainable development, and social transformation. Our unique idea for social change is grounded in leveraging digital innovation to empower communities, address systemic challenges, and create opportunities for economic resilience.

Through AgriFAAS Connect we bridge the gap between smallholder farmers and the resources they need — digital tools, market access, and climate-resilient practices — while fostering job creation and gender equity. We believe that by equipping individuals and businesses with the right tools and knowledge, we can catalyse self-reliance, boost productivity, and drive widespread socio-economic progress.
